What Should I Expect?

Sedation is used by dentists for several reasons. Sedation can:

Reduce a patient’s awareness of the length of time spent in the chair
Reduce the experience of sensations such as sounds and smells
Reduce the memories associated with the procedure

The sedation we offer is known as “conscious sedation,” which means patients are still somewhat responsive to their surroundings. Our practice is licensed by the Canadian Dental Association to deliver sedation to patients.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

Sometimes referred to as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is often chosen for mild to moderate sedation. It is easy to provide for children and wears off very quickly, allowing you to return to your day right after your appointment.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is delivered via a pill that is swallowed. We will provide you with the medication before your appointment, as well as instructions about how and when to take it. Patients receiving oral sedation will need to arrange for a ride home after an appointment.
